Looking for a Miracle…

The doctor never promised a miracle but she had done so well during treatment.  It was time for a break.  She had reached her max..the chemotherapy had done it’s job.  No disease to be found and she was so tired of dealing with ‘chemo-brain.’

This is a woman who lived and worked inside her brain.  By that, I mean, she really needed a clear head to compose clear thoughts.  The chemo had created a dense fog where those concise ideas once flourished and it was making her crazy.  So she was more than happy to take that break and get back to work.  It took some time, but that’s exactly what happened.  No chemo and the fog lifted.  It wasn’t exactly the way it was BC, but she felt the improvement.

Fast forward to check-up day.  Blood draws would open the next page, maybe even the next chapter to her cancer journey.  She was feeling pretty good, optimistic even.   But isn’t that always the way it is?  Cancer’s big set-up.

The news isn’t good.  The disease is making it’s move.  No one knows how long before the worst of it happens, but it’s a “when” not an “if” now.

Her support team is doing everything it can to keep her spirits up, but even the team reels from hearing news like this.

Tonight, for this friend and her loved ones, it is time for a shift; an adjustment of sorts, knowing what they face looking down the road.

Come to think of it, a miracle would have been nice.
