Dodging the Day….
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for everyone who has a “some one” to spend Valentines Day with…really.
I sent out a few Valentines today…got a couple of wonderful remembrance’s too.
But I’m hear to tell you all, that it’s still a tough day on the calendar and in my heart.
Sitting next to the computer are pictures of Leroy. He’s standing at the bow of a sailboat in the Pacific off of Maui. He’s sitting on the couch reading one of his favorite books. He’s posing with me and Goofy and Mickey at Disneyland, the place where we had our official first date.
And then there’s one of those little florist cards, that always came with roses on Valentine’s Day, where he wrote, “I Love You Terribly”..Leroy. The roses are long gone, except for one from each year that I saved and have in a vase upstairs. The petals might be dry and brittle, but the memories are everlasting.
So I’m wishing you all enjoy a Happy Valentine’s Day, but you’ll excuse me while I quietly dodge this day.

Even though I have a “some one,” we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. Bill Maher did a very funny commentary about Valentine’s Day on his show last Friday. I think going for being a loving person ALL the time is a better approach. Sort of like the promise to “keep Christmas in my heart all year.”

It is a difficult day….a couples day. All of the tv commercials and all the other forms of promoting Valentines Day show happy couples that appear to have a perfect life. Ok so I know they are selling cards and candy but I can be jealous of their pretend life. I found working was a bit helpful but unknowing strangers feel the need to ask you how your Valentine’s day is going or to wish you a happy one. Glad it’s done…I won’t feel the pressure for President’s Day.

Yes, Valentines Day is a rough day. I also looked at pictures and took out all the old Valentine Cards…………oh what beautiful memories. This and a bottle of wine got me through the night………….lifting
