Can you think it away?
Mind over matter….can you think cancer away?
Today is bone marrow transplant day for Robin Roberts. She sent a message to her ABC News audience and the essence of it was how important it is to stay positive when cancer is doing everything it can to bring you down. Her words; “Change the way you think in order to change the way you feel.”
She’s had an amazing outlook on her diagnosis since day one. Will it make a difference in how her body responds to treatment? The only answer is “MAYBE.”
There have been plenty of studies that show the mind can do so much for the body when it comes to healing. Concentrating on feeling well instead of ill during chemo or radiation is not uncommon in the treatment room.
Can the mind change the course of cancer? That’s a very tall order. Something that can’t be uncovered at a lab bench or under a microscope. It’s one of the mysteries of cure, I guess.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could just “think it away?”

My husband David died of gastrointestinal stromal tumor GIST after 10 years of treatment- sometimes I get so angry when i hear people spout platitudes like a good attitude will save you-it makes me feel that it was his fault that the cancer overcame him and if he had a better attitude he would still be here with me-Cancer is a beast and beast don’t give a damn about your attitude.

Having just gone for a check up-follow up visit, even after all these years, I am always shocked at how full the infusion room and waiting room are.
I would be nice to think it away. I am certain those folks just entering into ‘crazy land’ would agree.
