Will this time be different?
Will this time be different? Will the pain, sorrow and devastation of Sandy Hook be one of those moments in time that will be remembered for what it changed in this world? I hope so.
Will we remember the date and think, “How awful it was, BUT these are the things that changed because of it?” I hope so.
I thought something would happen after Columbine, but it seemed to fade onto history’s pages. I thought the Virginia Tech. shootings would lead to landmark moves that would challenge the ease in which a person can buy weapons; but that didn’t happen either.
What will Sandy Hook’s legacy be?
These victims died in the most violent way….we need to do something that will assure that they at least, rest in PEACE.

Gun regulation is terrible in this country. We are a nation of violence and the price paid in Sandy Hook is too high. My heart goes out to everyone in that community as they struggle to understand what has happened. The tragedy is that there will be no explanation that will make any sense. It is a parent’s worst nightmare and will stay with them for a lifetime. May we all keep the memory of these children and adults alive as we seek for ways to curb the ability of people to own “weapons of mass destruction.” In the meantime, may we all show love and caring to all we encounter.

I hope that something good will come from the tragedy but I’m not optimistic. We have people serving in Congress…Senate and House…who are probably good people at heart. But then they become politicians and lose all common sense and perspective. They mouthed the words we want to hear but do little to gain consensus and then implement the things we, the majority, want. It is just astounding to me. Refuse to stop spending when we all know what should be done..Stop Spending. No need for high capacity magazines, no need to allow the purchase of vast quantities of bullets, should not be able to buy guns at a gun with minimal to no checks and then walk out the door with a newly purchased gun PS–I own 2 shotguns..have had them since I was a boy..55+years. Pass a budget and live within the budget…millions do it each month except the government. We are being governed by “adults with the emotional IQ’s of teenagers”…..I won therefore I am entitled. Childish but it is our reality. “Ask not what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you.”
Sadly, the events at Newtown will age with time. The sadness, guilt, remorse and sorrow will gradually dissipate and be left on the shoulders and hearts of the families. The politicians will have assuaged their guilt sufficiently or one of their “pet projects” will be resurrected and now take priority…”need for another bridge to nowhere”. And Newtown will be added to list of names where senseless violence has visited. When someone asks the legislators…”well what ever happened to the gun legislation..stricter controls, more checks, no large capacity magazines, etc….the silence will be deafening with intelligent answers but lots of stammering and stuttering accompanied by “I need to check into this and I’ll get back to you.”
No action…rinse, repeat again somewhere else. Thanks Congress for nothing. But then again, nothing is what you are really good at doing.
