“Don’t let it get you down”
I’m looking at one of those little paper cards that florists offer their customers; the rectangular ones with a flower printed on the left side with room for a handwritten note just to the right of the flower. A person has to think about the right words to say, because there isn’t much room to write.
“Don’t let it get you down, Love, Leroy”
The note said it all…I’d had a couple of really rough days at work and he could tell I was feeling the weight of it all. He’d sent roses with this handwritten note. I appreciated the flowers so much, but what I really loved was the fact that he’d taken the time and was thoughtful enough to reach out with those words.
I’ve been looking at this little ‘flower card’ this week and thinking what perfect timing for this sentiment…Thursday will be the anniversary of his death and he’d probably say something close to this, as my fifth year without him unfolds on the calendar.
I’ll probably keep that little card in my pocket on Thursday. I’m a big believer in using the right words.
