OH YES…..all those things come to mind along with the replay of Leroy’s first steps.
Courage, bravery, determination, HERO, WARRIOR.
Nothing was going to stop him or this young man from taking those steps and working hard day after day to make them less deliberate.
These footsteps, and balance exercises were a challenge to the Big Guy. We’d do them in tandem; I would count and he would work. Every once in a while, he’d count too and tell me I had miscounted. I’d laugh and say “No way, buddy, go back and do another one in the set!”
The task master cracking the whip! We had to figure out a way to find some lighter moments, because it was just so unbelievable that he was in this situation to begin with. The former college all star volleyball player, solid athlete, learning to put one foot in front of the other again. Go figure!
Al, you’re so right. In the halls of cancer world, walk the bravest of the brave. No costumes, no make-up, no pretend.
The purest forms of Courage, Bravery, Determination and on and on and on…..
